
In a statement today, he said police raided 395 premises on Aug 30 and 31 and found 272 of them conducting unlicensed gambling activities.
“A total of 245 premises were selling lottery tickets without a licence, 20 were conducting online gambling activities, five were operating family entertainment centres without a licence and two were operating as gambling call centres,” he said.
Kumar said of the 328 people arrested, 286 were men and 42 women, including owners of the premises, workers, caretakers and gamblers. Of those detained, 70 were foreigners.
He said the items seized during the operations included cash, computer equipment, mobile phones and gambling machines.
“Public cooperation is required to provide information to help the authorities combat such activities,” he added.
