Kedah customs director Wan Marini Wan Hamzah said the operation was based on intelligence and carried out by officers from the Langkawi marine enforcement branch, along with an elite customs operational battle force response assault team.
“The authorities discovered an abandoned wooden boat with four gunny sacks labelled in Thai.
“Further checks revealed that the sacks contained a large quantity of marijuana flowers. The total weight of the seized drugs was 67.48kg, with an estimated value of RM6,209,816,” she said in a statement today.
The drugs were believed to have been smuggled in from a neighbouring country via the boat.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Wan Marini urged the public to support the department in the fight against smuggling, particularly of cigarettes, alcohol, fireworks, drugs, and vehicles. She said such crimes not only caused financial losses but also threatened national security and public safety.
