PETALING JAYA:
The Klang magistrates’ court today rejected the police’s application to remand 10 activists and residents detained over demolition work at Kampung Jalan Papan.

In a brief text to the Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) media WhatsApp group, the party’s deputy chief S Arutchelvan said the court denied the application for remand this morning.

“However, six more people were arrested today, including Chang Yee Shan, a PSM central committee member, and Jernell Tan, a coordinator with rights group Suara Rakyat Malaysia,” he said.

Yesterday, Tan was quoted as saying that authorities would bring 10 people, comprising eight activists and two residents of Kampung Jalan Papan, to court for remand applications following their protest against the demolition work.

Tan also confirmed that Arutchelvan and two other men had been remanded for another day following their arrests on Wednesday for allegedly obstructing civil servants from performing their duties.
