PENAMPANG:
DAP’s Jannie Lasimbang faces a 13-cornered battle to defend her Kapayan seat, as 12 other candidates line up to challenge her in the 17th Sabah state election.

Lasimbang, who has served two terms as Kapayan assemblyman, will face Chin Tek Ming of Warisan, Bernard Logijin of Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku and Upko’s Billy Joe Dominic, among others.

Also contesting are Dr Edwin Bosi (Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat), Lasius Miki (Pejuang), Chin Ling Ling (Parti Impian Sabah), Wong Kong Fooh (Parti Kerjasama Anak Negeri), Kuo Lee On (Parti Bumi Kenyalang), Sylvester Moloukun (Parti Aspirasi Rakyat Sarawak) and independent candidates Cyril Gerald Liew, Sabariah Aziz and Land Lip Fong.

In the 2020 polls, Lasimbang, the Sabah DAP vice chairman, won the Kepayan seat with a commanding 13,163-vote majority.

She had contested under the Warisan ticket at the time, as agreed under DAP’s pact with the Shafie Apdal-led party.

Kapayan, located in the Penampang district, has been a DAP stronghold for two consecutive terms.
