PETALING JAYA:
The minerals and geoscience department (JMG) has suspended the licences of three mining companies in Perak for failing to comply with conditions set out in the Letter of Approval for Mining Operation Scheme.

The natural resources and environmental sustainability ministry identified the companies as Asiatic Mine Sdn Bhd/Nalidah Tin Mine Sdn Bhd; Rahman Hydraulic Tin Sdn Bhd; and Rare Earth Carbonate/Perak State Agriculture Development Corporation/MCRE Resources Sdn Bhd.

It said the department had conducted inspections and water quality tests in Hulu Perak following complaints of pollution in the Rui, Kijang, Kepayang and Perak rivers.

“Investigations found that the companies did not comply with the conditions set by JMG, regarding effluent discharge, erosion and sedimentation, and management of chemical use,” the ministry said in a statement today.

It said the licence suspensions will remain in place until corrective measures are implemented and verified by authorities.

It also said untreated sewage discharge will not be tolerated, and companies should comply with the established regulations.
