PETALING JAYA:
A case of cable theft caused a major disruption to train services on the Putrajaya MRT line this morning, disrupting the power supply between the Sungai Buloh and Damansara Damai stations.

Its operator, Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd, said checks found that power cables were cut and stolen near the Damansara Damai station, causing “serious” disruptions to its services.

“Large-scale repair works are required, and this is expected to continue throughout the day,” it said in a statement.

In view of the disruption, alternative trains have been activated, with trains from the Putrajaya Sentral station to turn back at the Metro Prima station.

Meanwhile, shuttle trains between the Metro Prima and Damansara Damai stations will go back and forth, while trains from Kwasa Damansara will turn back at the Damansara Damai station.

Free shuttle buses have also been deployed for passengers affected by the disruption.

“Due to the disruption, passengers are expected to experience longer waiting times, especially between the Metro Prima and Damansara Damai stations.

“Passengers are advised to seek alternative modes of transport to continue their journeys to their destinations,” Rapid Rail said.

In October, the Putrajaya MRT line was also disrupted due to the theft of communication and signalling cables. The line’s service returned to normal after more than a week of repairs.
