SHAH ALAM:
A mechanic will spend 22 months in jail for abusing a cat to death last year.

Judge Nor Hasniah Ab Razak had ordered a RM60,000 fine in default of 22 months’ imprisonment after Daniel Hakim Abdullah, 39, pleaded guilty under Section 29(1)(a) of the Animal Welfare Act.

However, Daniel was unable to pay the fine and will therefore serve the custodial sentence.

According to the facts of the case, the offence occurred at a flat in Pangsapuri Melati, Seksyen U16, on Oct 3, 2025.

Daniel placed two cats – one white and one black – in a plastic bag and brought them to the front of his unit.

He then took them out and kicked them violently. The black cat was left on a neighbour’s kitchen wall, while the white cat later died.

The incident was captured by a CCTV camera along the walkway and quickly went viral on social media.

Following complaints, officers from the veterinary services department (DVS) visited the apartment, and a local resident directed them to where the white cat had been buried.

Daniel was represented by lawyer Amirah Badriyah Azhar, while the prosecution was handled by DVS officer Sharif Sabran.
