Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) deputy president Wetrom Bahanda confirmed Peter’s release but declined to provide details, Daily Express reported.
While authorities have yet to confirm Peter’s release, Daily Express quoted prison department sources as saying he applied for parole as soon as he was eligible and was granted conditional parole.
It is believed that Peter, who was Sabah infrastructure development minister when Warisan was in power between 2018 and 2020, was released on March 13.
Peter, then the managing director of Syarikat Asli Jati, was sentenced to three years in prison and fined RM50,000 for falsifying documents related to a maintenance and service contract at Universiti Malaysia Sabah.
In August last year, he failed in his bid to secure a retrial of his forgery charge after the Court of Appeal dismissed his application for a review.
