The 65th witness, according to lawyer Ram Singh, also said Zara was loitering in the corridor on the third floor of the dormitory between 1am and 2am, Berita Harian reported.
“The witness identified Zara from her attire. She said Zara appeared to be crying and her face was red.
“They spoke for 10 minutes before she accompanied Zara back to her room,” Ram was quoted as saying.
He also said that Zara had mentioned about wanting to hurt herself, but was advised against it.
Meanwhile, another lawyer, Joan Goh said the 65th witness only recently came forward to testify.
Goh said the witness had previously informed the police of the matter when authorities began investigating the death, but her statement was not taken.
“She recently began recounting the incident and a teacher then contacted the police,” Goh was quoted as saying.
The Borneo Post quoted Goh as saying a statement was not recorded from the witness earlier as she was terrified after a female officer had raised her voice during an interview.
Ram and Goh are representing one of the five students who allegedly uttered abusive words towards Zara.
Separately, counsel Shahlan Jufri said they have received an 84-page report on Zara from forensic psychiatrist Dr Chua Sze Huang, who is scheduled to testify this Thursday.
Zara, 13, was confirmed dead at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on July 17, 2025, a day after she was found unconscious in a drain near her school dormitory.
