PETALING JAYA:
A man seen in a viral video throwing a kitten against a wall at a self-service laundromat broke down in tears after being sentenced to six months’ jail by the Kajang sessions court today.

According to Berita Harian, Toh Teck Hooi, 49, pleaded guilty after the charge was read out by the court interpreter before judge Khainur Aleeza Ismail.

The court also imposed a RM60,000 fine on Toh, with a six-month jail term if the fine is not paid.

Toh was charged under Section 29(1)(a) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015 for cruelly abusing a black male kitten by repeatedly throwing it against a wall and a mattress at a laundromat in Taman Kajang Prima between 3.30am and 4am on April 2.

The prosecution was handled by veterinary services department (JPV) officer Sharif Sabran, while Toh was unrepresented.

Court documents show that on the day of the incident, Toh uploaded a 59-second video of the act to his social media account. A day later, Selangor JPV animal welfare officers inspected the scene.

Preliminary checks revealed the kitten’s right hind leg appeared injured, showing signs of discomfort when touched, and the animal seemed inactive and lethargic.

Toh was remanded for four days starting last Saturday. Media reports last Friday said the man was detained after the video of him abusing the kitten went viral online.
