PETALING JAYA:
A father of one has been slapped with a RM7,000 fine or seven months’ jail in default after pleading guilty to flashing a 12-year-old girl earlier this month.

Johor Bahru sessions court judge Nor Aziati Jaafar also ordered Ong Sheo Ming, 54, to be placed under police observation for a year, Berita Harian reported.

Ong, who has a three-year-old son, was charged with committing non-physical sexual assault by flashing the victim at a school in Tampoi, Johor Bahru, on April 1.

The charge was framed under Section 15(a)(i) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 which provides for up to 10 years in prison, a maximum RM20,000 fine or both, upon conviction.

During mitigation, Ong, who was unrepresented, asked for a lighter sentence, saying he was unemployed as he had stopped working in Singapore.

He said it was hard for him to find a job since he was over 50, and that his wife is an Indonesian.

Deputy public prosecutor Nur Farah Wahida Shahudin prosecuted.
