Bau police chief Haide Rahman said the teenager admitted to selling the materials as a source of income, reported Borneo Post.

“The suspect is believed to have accessed websites containing adult and child pornography, sold those materials via Telegram, and promoted them on social media platforms,” he said.

He was detained at Kampung Seromah during a raid conducted by officers from the Sarawak criminal investigation department at about 6.10pm.

Police also seized three mobile phones, a laptop and several SIM cards from the student.

Haide said police will not compromise on any activities involving sexual exploitation, particularly those involving children, and warned that strict action will be taken against those caught.

The teenager is being investigated for the sale, distribution and possession of obscene material under Section 292 of the Penal Code.

The case is also being probed for the sale, distribution and possession of child pornography under Section 8 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, as well as for the use or access of child pornography under Section 10 of the same Act.

The student has been remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation.
