Tang Jie-Ee Wei won 21-13, 21-14 in 37 minutes at the Olympics Sports Centre in Ningbo, China, marking their third victory over their Indian rivals in as many encounters so far.
Other Malaysian shuttlers still in the running at the BAC are men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and women’s doubles pairs Pearly Tan-M Thinaah and Carmen Ting-Ong Xin Yee.
They will be playing their second round matches later today.
In the quarter-finals, Tang Jie-Ee Wei will meet either South Korea’s Kim Jae Hyeon-Jang Ha Jeong or Indonesia’s Jafar Hidayatullah-Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu.
Malaysia’s women’s singles challenge ended earlier today when its lone representative in the second round, K Letshanaa, was trounced 21-14, 21-8 in 33 minutes by South Korea’s Sim Yu Jin, who is 18 places above Letshanaa in the world rankings.
