KUALA LUMPUR:
A police inspector charged with attempting to murder a traffic policeman at Jalan Sultan Yahya Petra here on Friday has been ordered to undergo psychiatric evaluation at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta for 30 days.

Sessions court judge Mazuliana Abdul Rashid made the order after lawyer G Nanda Goban said his client, Kamal Raj Abdullah, 40, had been diagnosed with schizophrenia three years ago.

Nanda said his client’s condition used to be under control, but that he was believed to have stopped receiving treatment and taking his medicine, leading to the incident.

Kamal was charged earlier today with attempting to kill traffic policeman Roslan Salleh, 27, by ramming him from behind with his Perodua Axia.

The charge under Section 307 of the Penal Code is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine, or up to 20 years’ imprisonment if hurt is caused to the victim, upon conviction.

No plea was recorded from Kamal, who told the court he could not remember the incident due to his mental health condition.

Mazuliana fixed May 14 for mention.

Kamal was also charged in the magistrates’ court with seven counts of reckless and dangerous driving, with no plea recorded again.

Magistrate Syazwany Yasmyn Tuan Roslan also ordered him to undergo psychiatric evaluation and fixed mention for June 9.
