KUALA LUMPUR:
There is no specific timeline for when rail service quality will fully stabilise, despite ongoing efforts to address frequent disruptions, says transport minister Loke Siew Fook.

He said Prasarana Malaysia Bhd has been instructed to strengthen mitigation and control measures, with greater focus on maintenance.

Loke said the issue would receive his ministry’s full attention, but acknowledged the difficulty of committing to a fixed timeframe.

“This is, of course, something we will give full attention to, but it is difficult to provide a specific timeline.

“We certainly hope disruptions do not occur, but sometimes they are beyond our expectations,” he said in a press conference.

On Tuesday, Loke expressed his disappointment with the “almost weekly” disruptions to the LRT and MRT services.

He said Prasarana had been instructed to pay close attention to technical issues affecting rail services, including the LRT, MRT and KL Monorail, amid growing public concern over the frequent breakdowns.
