KUALA LUMPUR:
The parents of the man who stormed the Ulu Tiram police station on May 17, 2024 appeared to welcome news of the incident that left their son and two policemen dead.

Arresting officer Cassidy Banta told the High Court today he traced the home address of the assailant, Radin Luqman Radin Imran, 21, through checks on a motorcycle’s registration number.

He said that during a raid at the house at about 7am the same day, he informed family members gathered in the living room about the incident, prompting the parents’ reactions.

“The deceased’s mother, Rosna Jantan, responded: ‘Alhamdulillah, baguslah tu’ (Praise be to Allah, that’s good).

“His father, Radin Imran Radin Yassin, said: ‘My only regret is that he didn’t invite me to join him’,” the witness said.

Cassidy, who is with the criminal investigation division of the Johor police contingent headquarters, said he arrested the couple and their children – Radin Romyullah, Mariah and Farhah Sobrina.

He said police seized four air rifles, nine PVC pipes believed to have been used to assemble the weapons, a bag containing 42 marbles, and four mobile phones from the house.

They also confiscated three exercise books bearing the names Radin Luqman, Mariah and Abdul Jabbar/Radin Luqman, as well as two books titled “Al-Jihad Sabiluna” and “Shariat-Minhaj-Ujian”.

Earlier, Cassidy testified that he inspected the crime scene at about 5am, where he found one officer lying near a motorcycle parking area at the station, and two others near an armoured police vehicle.

Radin Imran, 64, is charged with promoting terrorist ideology and supporting the Islamic State (IS) group, and with indoctrinating his wife and children with IS teachings between the end of 2014 and May 2024.

He also faces three charges of supporting terrorism, including possessing homemade firearms to facilitate IS-related activities, pledging allegiance to the group’s leader, and keeping materials linked to the militant organisation.

Rosna, 61, Farhah Sobrina, 25, and Mariah, 21, each face a charge of failing to provide information relating to terrorism offences.

Radin Romyullah, 36, faces one count of supporting IS and another of possessing a hard disk containing IS-related materials.

Deputy public prosecutors Siti Maryam Jamilah Kamal, Mustaffa P Kunyalam and Yazid Mustaqim Roslan appeared for the prosecution, while the accused were represented by Faizal Rahman and Fatimah Zulaikha Ahmad Bashri.

In the incident, policemen Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar and Syafiq Ahmad Said were killed, while another officer, Hasif Roslan, was injured.

The trial before Justice Nurulhuda Nur’aini Nor continues on April 27.
