Mum, daughter among 3 charged with robbing, attacking man

A mother and daughter are among three people charged in the sessions court in George Town, Penang, today with robbing and assaulting a man in Batu Ferringhi on April 13.

G Thananjayan, 41, Nur Fadzlin Mohamed Salim, 27, and her mother, Azura Abdul Latiff, 42, claimed trial after the charges were read to then before judge Juraidah Abbas, Harian Metro reported.

They are jointly accused of voluntarily causing hurt in robbing the 32-year-old victim at a condominium in Batu Ferringhi at about 5.30am.

The charge under Section 394 of the Penal Code is punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a fine or whipping, upon conviction.

Lawyer A Mahesh, representing all three accused, asked the court to grant a low amount for bail as they were not flight risks and had cooperated with the investigation.

He also said Thananjayan worked at a recycling centre, Fadzlin as a clinic assistant, and her mother was unemployed.

The court allowed bail at RM4,000 each and fixed June 3 for mention.
