The motorcycle rider, identified only as Dicky, said he had received donations from the public after a TikTok video about the mechanic’s kindness went viral.
“I will look for him next week. To those who have given me gifts on TikTok LIVE, I will pass the money to him so he can help others,” Dicky said.
In the original TikTok video, a mechanic with the handle @minyakhitamjalanan said he was called at about 12.30am to fix a motorcycle after its chain snapped and the front sprocket went missing.
The mechanic quoted a total fee of RM145, comprising RM25 for the front sprocket, RM80 for the chain and RM40 for labour.
After completing the repair, he noticed the customer had a remaining balance of RM176 in his Touch ‘n Go e-wallet and asked if he would still have money for food after paying.
The customer appeared hesitant but repeatedly insisted on paying the full amount. However, the mechanic told him he would not have to pay. Overcome with emotion, the man stepped forward and embraced him.
Netizens flooded the comments section with praise, hailing the mechanic’s empathy and generosity. The video garnered more than 600,000 likes and over 18,000 comments.
In a TikTok post today, Dicky thanked those who had personally messaged him to offer help, but said he does not want to receive any donations. He also cautioned that any accounts seeking donations under his name were fake.
