Moderate 5.9-magnitude quake hits north Sumatra

The meteorological department says there was no tsunami threat to Malaysia.

KUALA LUMPUR:
A moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 struck north Sumatra, Indonesia, at 4.06am today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the quake, at a depth of 18km, occurred 67km west of Nias.

It said there was no tsunami threat to Malaysia.
