In a statement, Kuala Lumpur traffic investigation and enforcement department head Zamzuri Isa said a breathalyser test conducted on the 42-year-old driver showed a reading of 183mg/100ml of blood, well above the legal limit of 50mg/100ml.
She was charged with driving under the influence under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 at the Kuala Lumpur traffic court today, where she pleaded guilty.
The court sentenced her to one day in jail and fined her RM13,000, in default six months’ imprisonment. She was also disqualified from holding a driving licence for two years.
Zamzuri said investigations are ongoing under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which pertains to reckless and dangerous driving.
He said preliminary investigations found that the BMW X1 failed to stop at a red light before colliding with a Yamaha LC135 motorcycle, which was travelling straight when the traffic light was green.
The motorcycle was ridden by a 22-year-old local man, with a 15-year-old girl as pillion passenger. The motorcyclist sustained minor injuries, including swelling to the right knee, while the pillion rider and car driver were unhurt.
Zamzuri also urged witnesses to the incident to assist in the investigation by contacting the Tun HS Lee traffic police station at 03-2071 9999 or any nearby police station.
A video of the incident went viral on social media today.
