
Fahmi said his ministry intends to revise the law to reflect rapid technological developments and changes in the postal and courier industry.
He added that the proposed amendments would also update the definition of the Universal Service Obligation to better reflect current realities, particularly the growth of e-commerce.
The Universal Service Obligation is a regulatory requirement ensuring that essential services such as telecommunications and postal services are available to all residents nationwide at affordable prices, regardless of geographical location.
“We will revise the definition of the Universal Service Obligation so that it is aligned with developments and our understanding of parcel delivery, products and goods within the e-commerce ecosystem,” he told reporters after the launch of the NADI Entrepreneur Programme here.
“I welcome industry players, including partners such as Shopee and courier service providers, to be involved in understanding the proposals and to provide their suggestions for improving the Postal Services Act,” he said.
Fahmi said a draft amendment had been prepared and would be tabled in the Cabinet.
