PETALING JAYA:
PAS has slammed national broadcaster Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) after TV2 allegedly aired a cartoon featuring lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) elements.

PAS ulama chief Ahmad Yahaya said the cartoon was “Cleopatra in Space”, and that this was the second time that RTM had broadcast cartoons with LGBT elements.

Last year, RTM stopped airing the cartoon “Santiago of the Seas” following complaints of indirect LGBT elements in the animated show.

Ahmad questioned the vetting process of RTM producers, saying they must be more wary of discreet attempts to spread LGBT elements through cartoons.

He said Malaysian authorities must not take the issue lightly or be lackadaisical when it comes to monitoring and controlling content aired locally, especially involving shows from abroad.

After the controversy over “Santiago of the Seas” last year, RTM said earlier internal assessments and content evaluations had detected no behaviour or scenes suggesting same-sex relationships or related elements.

The broadcaster nonetheless stopped airing the series to carry out a review of the show.
