In a statement, Kuala Lumpur traffic investigation and enforcement department head Zamzuri Isa said police received a report at 5.38am about an accident involving a Perodua Alza and a Ford Fiesta.
He said preliminary investigations found that the 31-year-old military officer drove his Fiesta into the opposite lane and rammed head-on into an Alza driven by a 41-year-old e-hailing driver.
“The Alza was carrying two Bangladeshi nationals, a 22-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, from KLIA.
“The male passenger, who was sitting in the middle of the backseat, was confirmed dead at the scene due to severe head injuries,” he was quoted as saying today.
Zamzuri said the woman is now receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) for various injuries.
“The e-hailing driver sustained head injuries, while the Fiesta driver only suffered minor injuries. A 36-year-old female passenger in the Fiesta was also injured and is receiving treatment at HKL,” he said.
Zamzuri said breathalyser tests found that the Fiesta driver’s blood alcohol level exceeded the allowed limit, while his urine test returned negative.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by driving under the influence of alcohol.
“Members of the public with information are urged to contact the Jalan Tun HS Lee traffic police headquarters at 03-2071 9999 or any nearby police station to assist in the investigation,” he said.
