PETALING JAYA:
Two men were arrested by police yesterday for racing with superbikes at the Putra Bridge in Putrajaya at about 12.30am on April 19, after a video of the event went viral.

Kuala Lumpur traffic investigation and enforcement department head Zamzuri Isa said one of the superbike owners had come forward to assist in investigations after he had been identified as being involved.

“Preliminary investigations found that the group was at the location not just to race but also to record and produce social media content. Further investigations are being held to determine the true purpose of the event.

“It is understood that this is the first time that the group had gathered at the location, which is near Masjid Putra,” he said in a statement.

Acting on information provided by the superbike owner, police later arrested two men, aged 31 and 33, while two motorcycles seen in the viral video were confiscated. They were later released on police bail on the same day after giving their statements.

“We are now tracking down several others who are believed to have been involved,” said Zamzuri.

Under the Road Transport Act, it is illegal to carry out races on a public road without permission.
