Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the figure represents an increase of RM19.186 billion, or 10.4%, from the RM184.8 billion collected by LHDN in 2024, Bernama reported.

Anwar, who is also the finance minister, said LHDN’s strong performance last year enabled the government to address long-standing obligations, including settling RM11.4 billion in outstanding tax refunds owed to companies.

In a speech read by deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof at LHDN’s 30th anniversary celebration in Cyberjaya, Anwar said the achievement reflects stronger governance and improved fiscal management at the tax agency.

Despite the robust revenue performance, Anwar said that the government must remain vigilant and principled in managing public finances, ensuring transparency, integrity, and the equitable distribution of resources.

He added that Malaysia must continue strengthening its fiscal base, expand its tax net without overburdening the people, and leverage digital technology to improve efficiency while curbing leakages and corruption.

“At the same time, services to the public and businesses must be further simplified, expedited, and streamlined.

“The goal is not merely higher tax collection, but a tax system that is fairer, more transparent, and trusted,” he said.
