Anwar, who is also the finance minister, said the move could help reduce fuel consumption, ease cost pressures, and maintain workforce productivity and morale, reported Bernama.
“Employers should be more flexible and pragmatic in managing their operations in light of rising cost pressures.
“The private sector cannot remain comfortable with old methods. This is the time to improve productivity, increase investment in innovation and automation, and generate greater value,” he said in a speech.
The text of his speech was delivered by deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof at LHDN’s 30th anniversary celebration in Cyberjaya.
On April 1, Anwar said the Cabinet had agreed to implement a WFH policy for those working in ministries, agencies, statutory bodies, and government-linked companies, effective April 15
He said the policy was aimed at ensuring energy security in light of fuel supply constraints due to the Middle East conflict.
On Wednesday, government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil said Malaysia has saved about 334,000 litres of fuel since the civil service’s WFH policy kicked off.
