A childcare centre chain owner pleaded not guilty in the magistrates’ court here today to three charges of operating unregistered facilities, while two of its branch operators faced one similar charge each.

Nor Fadilah Alias, 35, the owner of Al Kauthar Eduqids, and the two operators – Nurul Aina Zulkifli, 34, and Nurkhairunnisa Badrillah, 32 – entered their pleas before magistrates Aina Azahra Arifin, Khairunnisak Hasni and Atiqah Mohamed @ Mohamad Saim in three separate courts.

Nor Fadilah and Nurul Aina were jointly accused of operating an unregistered childcare centre at a premises in Taman Danau Desa at 3.25pm on Jan 9.

She faces an additional charge of committing a similar offence at a childcare centre in Sri Rampai Business Park, Medan Niaga Rampai, here on the same day.

The joint charges were brought under Section 6(1) of the Child Care Centre Act 1984, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum fine of RM10,000 or up to two years’ imprisonment, or both, upon conviction.

Her standalone charge was brought under Section 6(1) of the same Act.

The court allowed Nor Fadilah bail at RM9,000 with one surety for all charges, while Nurul Aina and Nurkhairunnisa were granted bail of RM2,500 and RM3,500, respectively, each with one surety.

The three cases were fixed for mention on June 15.
