Loud bursts believed to be from firecrackers were heard near the Sogo shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur where a rally against Azam Baki was held today.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Police will investigate an incident where firecrackers were let off in front of the Sogo shopping mall here where participants of the anti-Azam Baki rally had gathered earlier today.

Dang Wangi police chief Sazalee Adam said the authorities could not confirm whether the firecrackers were lit in an attempt to disrupt the rally.

“A packet of unused firecrackers, which are generally meant for festivities, was found,” he said at a press conference this evening.

Police, he added, are currently tracking down those involved, including the mastermind. Sazalee did not rule out summoning organisers and witnesses to assist in the investigation.

“To date, no police report has been lodged by the public or traders over the incident.”

Protesters had gathered in front of the shopping mall before marching to Dataran Merdeka. Sazalee said the rally proceeded peacefully, with an estimated 500 people taking part.
