Remand of independent preacher in RM12.3mil MACC probe extended

The anti-graft agency is investigating the individual, in his 30s, for alleged embezzlement of funds belonging to an NGO.

SEREMBAN:
The remand order for an independent preacher suspected of embezzling about RM12.3 million from an NGO has been extended until May 1.

Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli extended the order, which was to have expired today, upon application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission at the Seremban magistrates’ court.

The suspect, in his 30s, had been remanded for five days on April 22.

Negeri Sembilan MACC director Awangkok Ahmad Taufik Putra Awang Ismail confirmed the matter and said the case was being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009 for abuse of power.

MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki previously said 14 to 15 witnesses would be called to assist in the investigation.
