KUALA LUMPUR:
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has called on Negeri Sembilan Barisan Nasional (BN) to prioritise harmony and stability amid the current economic challenges, saying it is not the right time to be grappling for positions.

Anwar, the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, added that resolving the political crisis in Negeri Sembilan would “not be easy”.

“To me, we need to preserve harmony. Our country is facing economic issues and global crises, and this is not the time to be fighting (for positions) or tensions,” he told reporters on the sidelines of an event here.

Anwar added that he might meet BN chairman and deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi later today to discuss the crisis in Negeri Sembilan.

After its 14 assemblymen withdrew support for menteri besar Aminuddin Harun, Negeri Sembilan BN claimed to have the numbers to form a new state government with the backing of five Perikatan Nasional representatives.

This saw DAP Youth urging PH to review its alliance with BN at all levels.

BN, a key supporter of Anwar’s federal administration, joined PH to form the unity government alongside Gabungan Parti Sarawak, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, and others after the 2022 general election ended in a hung Parliament.
