PETALING JAYA:
Kedah police believe a man accused of assaulting his wife until she miscarried specifically chose civil servants as spouses because of their stable jobs and income.

According to a Bernama report, Kedah police chief Adzli Abu Shah said investigations found that the 43-year-old suspect had been married nine times, and all his current and former wives worked in the public sector.

“The suspect is believed to still have three wives and has been married nine times.

“He chose partners with stable jobs because he does not have a stable income,” he said at a press conference at the Kedah police headquarters today.

Adzli said the suspect is known to have a hot temper and has a criminal record for assault and threats.

The suspect was arrested at a homestay in Alor Setar yesterday after reports were lodged by the victim’s brother on April 23 and the victim herself on April 26.

The case involves a 39-year-old woman who was seriously injured after being assaulted by her husband in Ambangan Heights, Sungai Petani.

The woman suffered multiple injuries, including bruises all over her body, broken ribs on both sides, a fractured spine, and a miscarriage.

The suspect, who has 11 children, has been remanded for seven days until May 5 to assist in investigations.

Police confirmed the man was the same person involved in a previous case in Johor, in which his wife went into a coma after she was assaulted.
