PETALING JAYA:
A military officer suspected of drink driving and causing a fatal crash on the Maju Expressway last week has been remanded for two more days.

His first remand order expired yesterday, following which the police further remanded him until tomorrow.

Kuala Lumpur traffic investigation and enforcement department head Zamzuri Isa said the investigation paper would be completed and submitted to prosecutors tomorrow morning.

“As of now, 12 witnesses have given their statements on the incident,” he said in a statement.

A preliminary investigation found that the 31-year-old military officer was driving on the opposite lane of the highway on April 23 and crashed head-on with another car driven by a 41-year-old e-hailing driver.

The car was carrying a Bangladeshi couple who were in Malaysia for a holiday. The husband, believed to have been a gaming content creator, was killed in the crash.

His wife, who was injured, is receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

A breathalyser test found that the officer’s blood alcohol level exceeded the permitted limit, although his urine test returned negative for drugs.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
