In a statement, the internet regulator said it received no formal complaints of such comments.

“As such, no investigation was initiated. MCMC’s enforcement processes are guided by due process, evidential requirements, and legal thresholds,” it said.

It urged anyone affected by such comments to lodge a formal complaint via aduan.mcmc.gov.my.

“Enforcement action can only be undertaken where there is sufficient basis, supported by verified harm, proper context, and admissible evidence,” it added.

It also said it had acted on a comment highlighted by the columnist, underscoring that enforcement was not arbitrary, but hinged on official complaints and “the availability of sufficient grounds for investigation”.

“The commission remains committed to fair, transparent, and impartial enforcement, and will continue to take appropriate action to safeguard public interest, national security, and societal harmony.”

MCMC reiterated that online service providers were responsible for moderating and managing content published on their platforms, adding that TalentCorp had since removed the negative comments pertaining to its new CEO.

It said that content perceived as offensive did not necessarily constitute a legal offence.

“Each case is assessed on its own merits against the relevant legal provisions, with careful consideration of intent, context, potential harm, and the sufficiency of evidence.”

TalentCorp appointed Biruntha Mooruthi as its group CEO earlier this month, replacing Edward Ling.
