“This tells us that while we are producing more, we are also relying heavily on external inputs. It reflects a broader issue – productivity,” said Chow when opening the state-level Vaisakhi open house at Padang Kota Lama here.

“Malaysia’s productivity has improved over the years, but it is still not where it should be. We are working hard, but we must also work better and more efficiently if we want sustainable growth.”

Chow said that Malaysia could learn from the spirit of resilience and independence of the Sikh community. He praised the community for building their lives through discipline, entrepreneurship, and a strong sense of self-reliance, while remaining grounded in service by always giving back to the country.

Government statistics show that Malaysia’s exports rose to RM146.87 billion and imports to RM125.5 billion in January, resulting in a trade surplus of RM21.37 billion, a 483.9% surge compared to January 2025.
