Myanmar man charged with ex-wife’s murder

He is accused of killing the 33-year-old woman outside a condominium in Wangsa Maju last month.

KUALA LUMPUR:
A Myanmar national was charged in the magistrates’ court here today with murdering his ex-wife in Wangsa Maju last month.

Aung Tun Ngwa, 26, is accused of murdering Merry Yet Ngwa, 33, in front of Block 1 of the Genting Court condominium in Taman Setapak Indah Jaya.

The incident allegedly took place at about 2.30pm on April 23.

The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years and no fewer than 12 strokes of the rotan, upon conviction.

No plea was recorded before magistrate Izzah Hasan Basri as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

The accused was unpresented while M Naresh Kumar appeared for the prosecution.

The court fixed July 31 for the submission of documents including the post-mortem report.
