Van driver in fatal school gate crash remanded for 3 days

The driver of a van that struck and killed an eight-year-old girl at a school gate in Johor yesterday has been remanded for three days to assist in investigations.

The remand order for the 60-year-old suspect was issued by magistrate Nurasidah Rahman at the Batu Pahat magistrates’ court this morning, Buletin TV3 reported.

Nur Aini Umairah Mohd Fareez, a Year 2 pupil, died yesterday afternoon after being hit by a van at the entrance of SK Seri Maimon near Parit Sulong, Johor.

The van was reportedly exiting the school compound after making a delivery when it struck the girl at the gate.

She sustained severe head injuries and internal organ trauma and was confirmed dead at the scene.

She was buried at the Kampung Parit Mustafa Muslim cemetery in Parit Sulong at 8.35pm yesterday.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

The offence carries a prison term of five to 10 years, a fine of RM20,000 to RM50,000, and mandatory disqualification from driving for at least five years.
