Bryan Ng says Lee Chean Chung should take responsibility if the Petaling Jaya constituency is lost.

Bryan Ng claimed a motion was passed during the division’s annual general meeting calling for Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung not to be renominated as a candidate.
PETALING JAYA:
PKR deputy secretary-general Bryan Ng today hit back at his party colleague, Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung, following remarks by the latter that the constituency can no longer be considered a safe seat for the party.

Ng, the Petaling Jaya division’s vice-chief, said Lee was effectively admitting his own weaknesses.

“Petaling Jaya is a Grade A seat for PKR. If it is lost in the next election, Lee should be the first person to reflect and take full responsibility for the actions that led to this situation,” he said in a statement.

Ng said Lee’s defeat in the divisional polls last year showed that grassroots members had lost confidence in his leadership, and claimed a motion was passed at the division’s annual general meeting on April 19, calling for Lee not to be renominated as a candidate.

He criticised Lee for failing to resolve long-standing flash flood problems in Taman Sri Manja, Taman Dato Harun, and Jalan 223.

“The most consistent response from him has only been media statements asking for reports and reviews while shifting responsibility to the Petaling Jaya City Council and the Selangor government without a single constructive solution,” he said.

Ng said Lee should have gone to the ground and used his influence to secure “pragmatic solutions” instead of issuing “rhetorical media statements”.

He also accused Lee of being inconsistent in attending the monthly central leadership council meetings, where issues could be raised directly with party leaders, including president Anwar Ibrahim

“He never raised or discussed the people’s issues constructively in meetings, but outside he is vocal in criticising the party,” he said.

Ng also alleged that Lee was absent from community programmes during Ramadan, claiming that residents rarely saw him at bazaars or local events.

“At a time when small traders hoped for his presence to voice their concerns, he appeared busier shaping narratives on social media,” he said.

FMT has reached out to Lee for comment.

On Sunday, Lee reportedly said PKR’s situation could be worse than suggested in a leaked internal analysis that showed the party had only seven safe parliamentary seats ahead of the next general election.

He also said Petaling Jaya, classified as a “Tier 1” safe seat, might no longer be secure due to voter dissatisfaction and changing expectations.
