2 ex-clinic workers charged over woman’s death during alleged abortion

Two former clinic workers were charged in the Kuala Lumpur magistrates’ court today with causing the death of a 45-year-old woman as a result of an act allegedly carried out with the intent to cause a miscarriage.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Two former clinic workers pleaded not guilty in the magistrates’ court here today to a charge of causing the death of a woman during an alleged abortion two years ago.

Philomena Mathias, 83, and Rusbur Kaur Partab Singh, 73, were jointly charged with causing the death of a 45-year-old woman as a result of an act allegedly carried out with the intent to cause a miscarriage.

They were accused of committing the offence at a clinic along Jalan Changkat Bukit Bintang at about 5.30pm on Oct 22, 2024.

The charge, framed under Section 314 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum jail sentence of 10 years and a fine upon conviction.

Magistrate Illi Marisqa Khalizan allowed bail at RM3,000 each with one surety and fixed June 29 for mention of the case.

Deputy public prosecutor Syafika Azwa Fikri appeared for the prosecution while lawyer George Loh represented both accused.
