PETALING JAYA:
Men’s doubles shuttlers Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, who have been struggling to regain their old form this year, played with urgency to book a quarter-final berth at the Thailand Open today.

The world No 9 pair showed glimpses of their past form as they defeated China’s Huang Di-Liu Yang 21-14, 24-22 in a 46-minute match at Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok. This was their first encounter with the world No 36 pair.

In the quarter-final tomorrow, Sze Fei-Izzuddin will face either Malaysia’s new combination of Chia Wei Jie-Teo Ee Yi or Scottish pair Christopher Grimley-Matthew Grimley.

The Malaysian former world No 1 pair are hunting for a second title this year after winning the Indonesia Masters in January. They have not had a good run this season, experiencing early eliminations in the last four tournaments.

Three other Malaysian men’s doubles pairs will play their last 16 matches later today. The other Malaysian shuttlers in the remaining categories were eliminated in the opening round yesterday.
