Sivabalan said the incident occurred about 20 minutes after the meeting ended when a group returned to the meeting hall and demanded to know why the no-confidence motion against him was not allowed to be debated or put to a vote.
He said he had accepted the motion, but told those who brought it that it would be referred to the party’s central leadership for consideration.
“They wanted to debate and discuss (the motion). I said there was nothing to debate because we had already accepted the motion.
“We cannot put it to a vote. This is only a motion, so it has to go to the higher leadership for a decision,” he told FMT.
Sivabalan said the motion involved two issues – a no-confidence vote against him, and the appointment of village chiefs.
He said both matters could not be decided at the meeting as they were not within the division’s powers.
“The no-confidence motion has to go to the higher leadership. The appointment of village chiefs is also not in our hands. I did not reject the motion. I accepted it and said it would be forwarded to the central leadership,” he said.
Sivabalan said three women members were injured in the commotion, suffering swelling on their hands.
He said a police report had been lodged, and that another report would be filed at the Sungai Buloh district police headquarters.
He had also lodged a separate police report yesterday, alleging that he received a death threat linked to internal party tensions ahead of today’s AGM.
FMT has reached out to the police for comment.
PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh confirmed the incident and said it did not affect the meeting.
“The Kuala Selangor division’s annual meeting proceeded smoothly and was valid according to the party’s constitution,” she told FMT.
Kuala Selangor PKR had previously been in the spotlight over internal tensions following the party’s divisional elections.
