Tuan Ibrahim also said the group has yet to submit any application for consideration.
“We have not discussed the matter yet, and they (Hamzah’s supporters) have not submitted any formal application to join PN,” he said when met at the PAS headquarters after the launch of the Malaysia-Aid4Iran Secretariat, which was also attended by Valiollah Mohammadi Nasrabadi, Iran’s ambassador to Malaysia.
Tuan Ibrahim, the PAS deputy president, said four parties have formally applied to join PN so far. However, he said the coalition needed time to review several documents before making a final decision.
PN currently comprises PAS, Bersatu, Gerakan and the Malaysian Indian People’s Party.
Hamzah previously said that he would not leave PN in his political struggle despite being expelled from Bersatu, while hinting at joining a “new political home” in the near future.
Yesterday, Berita Harian reported that efforts by Hamzah’s group to join an existing political party seeking to become a PN member had hit a dead end after the coalition decided not to accept any new component parties for the time being.
A source was quoted as saying that Bersatu leaders strongly objected during the PN Supreme Council meeting on Saturday, citing concerns that a new component member could become a “new home” for Hamzah and his camp, potentially destabilising PN.
