Ex-PBM leader denies members quit party over GLC, local council posts

Krishna Govinth says if this were the case, they would have 'walked away' in 2023.

PETALING JAYA:
A former Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) leader has rebuffed claims by president Larry Sng that some members in Selangor quit the party after failing to secure promised positions in local councils and government-linked companies (GLCs).

Krishna Govinth claimed that it was Sng who, of his own accord, negotiated with menteri besar Amirudin Shari for certain roles prior to the state polls in 2023.

However, after the state election, Selangor PBM was informed that these merit-based opportunities would not materialise, he said.

“If our loyalty truly hinged on these positions, we would have walked away in 2023.

“Instead, we stayed for years, building bridges with the Madani government through our own sheer effort and proactive grassroots work,” the former Selangor PBM secretary said in a Facebook post.

Yesterday, Sng claimed that a few leaders had resigned from the party after failing to secure posts in local councils and GLCs.

Sng said that after a senior vice-president took over Selangor PBM, members were unable to get any further support from the Pakatan Harapan state government despite continuing to work alongside it.

He said this in response to news reports that members of the Petaling Jaya division of PBM had resigned en masse that afternoon “to do more, serve more effectively, and be part of a political platform that better reflects the aspirations of the people”.

Krishna, who resigned from the party on Monday, said a “profound and prolonged lack of party direction” had led to his departure and that of many others from PBM.

He said his dissatisfaction with the national leadership was made unequivocally clear when he resigned as national deputy information chief in October 2025.

“Following that resignation, I attempted to focus my efforts entirely on Selangor, but without a cohesive national direction, the heart and motivation to perform were simply no longer there.”

Krishna said if the goal of members who quit the party was merely to secure power or financial gain as alleged, they would never have applied to join Parti Bersama Malaysia which he said offered “absolutely zero material incentives”.

He also said he deeply valued the friendships and working relationships forged with those in the unity government, and that moving to a different political platform would not erase such bonds.

“I sincerely hope to continue these constructive relationships. I wish PBM well, good luck to them,” he said.
