Man killed, 3 injured in helium gas tank explosion in Sungai Petani

PETALING JAYA:
A man was killed and three others injured after a helium gas tank used to fill balloons exploded at the Dataran Jam Besar expo site in Sungai Petani, Kedah, tonight.

Utusan Malaysia reported that drinks seller Azmi Ahmad, 42, died at the scene after sustaining severe stomach injuries and a broken arm in the 7.50pm incident.

The state fire and rescue department said it received a report at 7.52pm.

Azmi is believed to have been hit by shrapnel from the tank, which was next to a toilet about 200m away from him. The injured victims were aged 16, 36 and 49.
