Malaysia are not only assured of a final berth in the men’s doubles, but there is a possibility of an all-Malaysian clash as Wan Arif Wan Junaidi-Yap Roy King are also in the last four.
Top seeds Aaron-Wooi Yik, who were last year’s runners-up, defeated lower-ranked He Ke Yuan-Lin Xiang Yi 21-15, 21-16 in 34 minutes at the Unifi Arena in Bukit Jalil.
They are hoping to break their title drought this year, having failed to win any of the seven tournaments they have played in so far.
Their best performances thus far were being runners-up at the Malaysia Open in January and at the All England in March.
World No 16 pair Arif-Roy King are, however, expected to face a tough time in their semi-final match against 18th-ranked Danish pair Daniel Lundgaard-Mads Vestergaard, who have been playing well of late.
Separately, reigning world mixed doubles champions Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei failed to qualify for the semi-finals after losing to new Chinese pair Gao Jia Xuan-Wei Ya Xin in the quarter-finals. The world No 4 duo lost to the 248th ranked pair 18-21, 16-21 in a 43-minute match.
Although the Chinese pair are new, Wei has won numerous titles partnered with other players over the last eight years, including several top-notch crowns.
