PETALING JAYA:
Police arrested a man after he is said to have rammed his SUV into a car and assaulted its driver on Jalan PJU 8/1 in Damansara Perdana early this morning.

Petaling Jaya police chief Shamsudin Mamat said police received a report at about 10.30am on the incident, which occurred earlier at about 12.30am.

“The suspect, a man in his 20s, is believed to have failed to stop at a traffic light and crashed his SUV into a car. The incident injured a woman in her 20s, who was a passenger in the car,” Utusan Malaysia quoted him as saying.

Shamsudin said the suspect was arrested at the Petaling Jaya police headquarters. He tested negative for alcohol and drugs.

He said police would apply for a remand order at the Petaling Jaya magistrates’ court tomorrow.

The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.

A separate investigation is being conducted by the Petaling Jaya criminal investigation department under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, he said.
