Speaking after the state coalition’s annual general meeting at the Penang DAP headquarters here, Chow said the committee, comprising all members of the state leadership committee, will be assisted by three subcommittees overseeing the election manifesto, communications and election mobilisation respectively.
Penang DAP vice-chairman Zairil Khir Johari will lead the manifesto subcommittee, while the communications committee will be led by Penang PH communications chief Lee Boon Heng of PKR. The election mobilisation committee will be led by Zahar Zainul of Amanah.
Chow said the three subcommittees would focus on boosting voter turnout and raising public awareness of the importance of the impending general election.
He also announced minor changes to Penang PH’s leadership committee, with Penang PKR chief Mohamad Abdul Hamid replacing Nurul Izzah Anwar as a deputy chairman.
Penang PKR deputy chairman Goh Choon Aik will replace Mohamad as a vice-chairman.
Chow, who is also Penang chief minister, said that with national developments directly impacting the states, it is important for Penang PH to strengthen itself by preserving intra-party unity.
“We also need to enhance organisational discipline and strengthen our grassroots machinery,” he said.
Chow also said that the state leadership committee decided to restructure the party machinery in every parliamentary constituency in preparation for the grassroots-level polls.
