PETALING JAYA:
A man suspected of being a “tekong darat”, or coordinator for smuggling activities, and two undocumented Bangladeshi nationals were seriously injured after their car skidded while attempting to flee police in Jeli, Kelantan.

General Operations Force (GOF) southeast brigade commander Ahmad Radzi Hussain said a team from the 7th Battalion’s intelligence branch detected a suspicious red Proton Saga on the East-West Highway during the 7.30am incident near Jalan Bukit Cermin in Kampung Sungai Rual.

He said the 21-year-old driver sped off after realising he was being followed but lost control of the vehicle and veered into a ditch.

“Police found nine people in the vehicle, comprising a local man believed to be the driver and eight Bangladeshi men aged between 20 and 40.

“Six Bangladeshi men sustained minor injuries, while the driver and two others suffered serious injuries. All of them were taken to Jeli Hospital for further treatment,” Bernama reported him as saying.
