Cecelia isn’t quite sure when she had decided to adopt Miming the cat. In fact, upon thinking about it some more, Cecelia says it must have been the other way around.
“I don’t know how old Miming is, or where she came from,” ponders Cecelia, who ventures a guess that Miming must be around nine or 10 years old now.
“She just appeared around the same time my daughter was finishing up her high school, and decided to live in our house. She made herself comfortable and fit right in as if she had been here for years.”
And since nobody had claimed the bossy-looking cat after weeks, she was christened the simple name “Miming”, which meant “cat” in Cecelia’s native tongue of Visaya.

Most owners who decided to adopt stray cats will admit that their feline friends turned out to be extremely affectionate, clingy and loving.
Funnily, this isn’t the case with Miming.
“She always has a sour face on, and prefers to be left alone to her own devices,” laughs Cecelia.
“The only time you’ll see her sporting a vaguely happy look is when someone’s eating at the table, during which she’ll keep meowing and asking for food.”
Once full, however, Miming will once more go off on her own to either nap on the couch or send everyone in the family angry looks every now and then.

Though Miming is quite standoffish, Cecelia says the calico has a soft spot for her husband, Colin, who spends most of his time ignoring Miming.
“My husband doesn’t like cats, but Miming seems to adore him,” grins Cecelia.
“In fact, we would often catch her sleeping on my husband’s pillow, on his folded sarong, on his house slippers and even on his guitar.”
Though Colin has now warmed up to Miming (somewhat, they still exchange strange looks), you wouldn’t catch them cuddling and spending time with each other, adds Cecelia.
“Sometimes I think she bothers my husband on purpose, knowing that he’s not too big of a fan of hers,” she says.

But what about Cecelia? Does Miming not show her love for Cecelia, the one who kindly accepted Miming into her household?
“Well, she has this funny thing where she would climb on my lap and then fall asleep on my stomach. She does it as often as she can,” laughs Cecelia.
This also works as an indication that Miming likes you, says Cecelia, as she is very picky about who she sleeps on.
Otherwise, be very careful about approaching Miming. Be sure to pay attention to her stance, advises Cecelia, and watch for whether her claws are out or not!
