John Snow and his siblings were born to a stray cat three years ago. “I used to feed the strays in the Sunway area and that’s when I spotted a pregnant mother cat. And a few weeks later, there was John Snow and his siblings,” Shoke Lui says.
She remembers feeding the family for a few weeks until one day when the mother cat and her kittens were a no show. “The only one left was John Snow and since he was all by himself, my friend and I decided to take him home.”

Already sharing her home with five other cats, Shoke Lui knew she was unable to adopt John Snow. Neither was her friend who lived with 10 indoor cats. So, she did the next best thing, which was to foster the kitten until she could re-home him. “It took me a month before I decided to adopt him,” she says.
She describes the beautiful John Snow as “extremely cheeky, and a rascal” with boundless energy.

“He runs around the house non-stop from morning till night. He likes to chase the beam from the laser pen, hide in boxes and grab any kind of glittering string,” Shoke Lui says.
The only times he is quiet are when he’s asleep, eating or answering the call of nature. Then he’s back to his wild ways, picking fights with and chasing the older cats in the house,” she says.
He also has a stubborn streak and will not do as told. “Sometimes when I say ‘No!’ to something he is about to do, he will deliberately do it in front of me,” Shoke Lui says.
“Yet he’s a loving boy when he comes to me for cuddles.”

Unlike most cats that are finicky eaters, John Snow gobbles up anything you put in front of him, which also means he likes to sample whatever Shoke Lui is eating.
However, like most cats, he is terrified of thunder, lighting, and the vacuum cleaner.
This applies to all loud noises, so no shouting in the house, please – John Snow likes his peace and quiet and expects his humans to talk in low tones at all times.

He also does not like strangers dropping in for visits and detests trips to the veterinary clinic or being made to have a bath.
John Snow is rather intelligent, having perfected the art of gentle manipulation and knows how to get on Shoke Lui’s good side whenever he gets into trouble.
“When he’s done something wrong and I shout his name, he will immediately fall on the floor and look up at me with his cute face.”

At night, John Snow loves to play hide-and-seek by ducking under the blanket. Once Shoke Lui is sound asleep, he quietly crawls out in search of his next adventure in the quiet of the night.
