PETALING JAYA:
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has maintained that the political situation in Sabah remains under control despite the ongoing turmoil.

He said he had spoken to Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor and was made to understand that Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had also spoken to Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin.

“The situation is under control for now,” Anwar said, adding that he would give more attention to the matter after returning from his two-day trip to Jakarta which begins tomorrow.

Anwar said the priority now was to ensure that the state government’s administration was not affected.

The prime minister was commenting on the current political crisis in the state between Hajiji on one side and Bung with Warisan president Shafie Apdal on the other.

Earlier today, after an hour-long audience with Sabah governor Juhar Mahiruddin, Hajiji was all smiles as he left the palace.

Hajiji arrived at the palace at around 4.30pm after being summoned to presumably submit the statutory declarations from Sabah assemblymen who are in support of him remaining as the chief minister.

Meanwhile, Bung met Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and his deputy, Mohamad Hasan, in Kuala Lumpur to discuss the political crisis in the state.
